President of USO of Illinois, Lisa Moeller spoke at
the March 10 Dinner Meeting about the United Services Organization in Metropolitan Chicago. As you know, the U.S.O. is a civilian
charity with no financial support from the government. The road shows performed for the troops around the world are legendary.
Think Bob Hope.
Its four area locations are at Navy Pier, Midway and
O’Hare airports and Naval Base Great Lakes. The airport facilities are open and staffed seven days a week, 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year. The U.S.O. has been serving the armed forces since 1941. The sheer number of programs (unbeknown to
probably most of us) the U.S.O. manages, and the activities it juggles for service members and their families can only be
characterized as stunning. It is a charity – 501c(3) and consequently welcomes all donations and
volunteers.
