Amended Newsletter
The hopes for regular output of a newsletter just have not been met and
for reasons that are not currently clear to me. However, there are a number of events upcoming on the Post calendar
so this letter will have to suffice with my apologies.
At
the last business meeting we elected the following officers for 2012: Commander-Tom Marks
Senior Vice Commander-Bill Gretz, Junior Vice Commander-Vinnie Dolan,
Sergeant at Arms-Patricia Simmons, Adjutant-Gary Simmons, and Finance Officer-Bob McPhilimy.
Vinnie put on another excellent dinner on October 10th with a very informative speaker who
spoke about the difficulties of returning service men and women and the efforts of his organization to help them. This
will provide us with an opportunity to also be helpful to our returning service people.
Recently the Girl Scouts have been asking to use the Post home for some of their events. One troop
will be meeting on the first Monday of each month between 2 and 4:30 PM. We are pleased to see this development and
look forward to more Girl Scout participation at our events.

Sons of the American Legion
We have not yet collected enough applications to form a Squadron but we have four motivated
leaders who are raring to go. Please help us by bringing names and contact information to Pat Blake or me. (The
Nov.8 event might be a boon for recruiting.) Let’s get this this up and running!
Although Lake Forest Day seems like a long way off, the planning has already begun. Because the
“Peace Conference” to end the Viet Nam war was conducted in 1972, 2012 will be the 40th anniversary
for the end of major participation by the US in that conflict. Accordingly, the theme for 2012 will be, “The American
Legion Salutes our Viet Nam Veterans” unless a superior alternative is suggested and agreed to. The time
for final selection should be at the end of January.
As
many of you know, Lake Forest Hockey Club sells Christmas trees and wreaths. If you are interested you may telephone
Mrs. Blake at 847-830-2146.
